Swertia is a genus in the gentian family containing plants sometimes referred to as the felworts. Some species bear very showy purple and blue flowers.
Swertia, commonly known as ‘Chirata’ in indigenous systems of medicine, are used for the treatment of a variety of ailments. Literature survey revealed that much phytochemical analysis has been done on genus Swertia by several groups.
