A macrorrhizos is a fast-growing herbaceous plant, growing up to 5 m in height, which has been intentionally introduced in many tropical and subtropical regions to be used as an ornamental, food crop, and animal feed. It has the capability to reproductive sexually by seeds and vegetatively by corms, tubers, and root suckers and can grow in a great variety of substrates and habitats ranging from full sun to deep shaded areas.
