Snake Plant (නියඳ)

Snake plants (or mother-in-law’s tongue) are one of the most popular and hardy houseplants. An architectural species, it features stiff, upright leaves that range from one to eight feet tall, depending on the variety. Snake plants usually have green banded leaves, while the variety called mother-in-law’s tongue typically features a yellow border.

Flower : fascicles of 3- 6, mostly about

Fruit : Berry globose, 6- 10 mm broad, orange in colour when ripe with one or 2 seeds

Seeds : white, broadly ovoid, with horny endosperm

Ayurvedic usage : Heart disorders, Ascites, Hemorrhoids, Cough and Sore throat, Otalgia, Bites of Cobra, Skin abscess

Height : about 14 inches tall

Leaves : 4- 12 in tufts, to c. 110 X 6 cm, more or less flat and ensiform or nearly terete and channeled, tapering to apex, acute, apiculate, ending in a witheredbrown spine- like tip, both surfaces shining, smooth, with transverse diffuse bands of green and dark green merging with one another
